5-star keyboard September 6, 2010 Kimberly (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida USA) Love this keyboard -- 5 stars
My favorite features . . .
Keys have a nice, reliable, snappy typing action & responsive - Its gentle on my fingers, no need to pound on the keys :) Keys have standard layout and normal size buttons, makes typing easy.
Ajustable light -- Easy to see in the dark, clearly lights up the letters on the buttons.
Media buttons -- easy to access the mute, volume, etc.
Looks cool -- black & has nice matte finish that doesnt show smeary finger prints. Flat and modern style, looks nice on my desk. Keyboard has enough weight so it stays put & not slide around while typing.
Just a lit Keyboard September 5, 2010 William E. Beavers Jr. (Thompsons Station (Near Nashville), TN United States) I have had this keyboard since March of 2010. I considered some of the gaming boards before this and I am glad I decided on this one from Logitech.
I am not a keyboard connoisseur; I have always gone with the ones offered from the manufacturers. I do not play games on my computer, or ones that require macros anyway. I would think that if that is what you want you will not even be looking at this review. I can say that this keyboard does exactly what I want it to do, makes reading my keyboard a little easier in dark situations. It also had something I did not expect, a great feel! It is soft, quiet, and believe it or not, I find the fact that it is so thin and flat that it makes typing easier!
One of the reviews I read said that the keyboard should not be listed as an ergonomic keyboard. I guess if you are accustomed to one of those split boards from Microsoft then this would seem unaccommodating. I personally find this to be the best keyboard that I have owned. It has served me well and I like it. Some have complained of the key blocking issue with this board. I am not that good a typist! I probably type about 45 to 50 words per minute, and closer to 35 words per minute spelled correctly. I hit a lot of keys in producing my typing and I am not very efficient. I have never had a key blocking issue at all. So if you are super typist you may want to read some other reviews due to the fact that I am not that great!
Logitech does a very good job of making this thing seem nice, like they do all of their products, right out of the box! The keyboard is laid out in a nice, presentable box. When you plug it in to the USB it just lights up and looks great! I installed the software and it gives you some flexibility in making all the buttons work on it. It can do a lot of functions like a basic multimedia keyboard should. The letters and characters are all easy to read due to their block style. I am amazed at how classy and nice this thing makes my computer desk look. It really is that good. I thought at one point of purchasing one of the other keyboards that has multiple colors and can go from blue, to red, to amber. I can tell you that the white looks nice. I really wanted blue to begin with, but after having this the plain white makes sense. If Logitech wanted to change something I would suggest that they add the keyboard in different colors, or give the board the ability to change colors.
I find the light is not overwhelming; it is bright enough for it to do what you need it to do. To sum it up nicely it is not the kids' game-playing keyboard, it is simply a business man's keyboard. It does the job quickly, quietly, and sufficiently to be deemed a very good product by me. I can hardly believe I am even writing a review of something as mundane as a keyboard!
Cool, sleek, quiet yet wonderfully responsive September 4, 2010 Gary Oppenhuis Very responsive keys, yet wonderfully quiet.
Smooth, sleek, modern and cool design. 3 levels of brightness for backlit illumination of keys. Programmable function keys, via the SetPoint software.
Nice gently sloping wrist rest. Would be good to have collapsible feet to change angle of keyboard.
Best keyboard I've ever purchased!
Initially Impressed September 3, 2010 T. Smith I really wanted a backlit keyboard, my wife and I both tend to use computer late at night, but most of the ones easily located are gaudy "gamer" keyboards, too big and lots of features we don't need. This looked like a nice option, especially after seeing how sleek and stylish it is, not to mention having a pretty small footprint on the desk.
I was skeptical about the comfort, but it's really not that bad at all, no worse than any other straight, non-ergomatic keyboard. Also it is pretty quiet, as compared to my previous MS Ergo KB 4000, and the backlighting is very nice. Not distracting, different brightness levels, very handy for typing in darker conditions.
However, after paying about $80 for this keyboard less than 6 months ago, I'm currently shopping for a new keyboard. Here are my main complaints:
1. As frequently mentiond in other reviews, the keyboard is not recognized on bootup. Therefore it cannot be used to enter BIOS or choose boot options. Since I still have my old MS Ergo 4000 I have to hook that up anytime I want to do anything "pre-windows"
2. The SetPoint software from LogiTech. It seems to be somewhat of a resource hog, isn't very configurable compared to alternatives, and seems kind of sluggish (although maybe it's the hardware, but there seem to be irritating delays when typing frequently)
3. The down arrow key has stopped working entirely, which is horribly aggravating when typing in long documents. This was the real clincher that pushed me into saying "enough already".
To top it off, the Logitech MX 1100 mouse which I bought at the same time, suddenly has developed the habit of double clicking on single left mouse clicks about 25% of the time. I've uninstalled/reinstalled latest drivers/SetPoint, but according to research on the Internet seems to be a common issue with this mouse. Some people have posted about cracking the mouse open to fix this, but really not something I am interested in doing. I really liked the MX 1100 from a comfort perspective, it fit perfectly in my hand, but it just seems to be further evidence of poor production quality.
Both items should still be under warranty, but rather than hassle with tech support (with the best solution being I have to ship these back to get replacements with the same poor quality), I'll just bite the bullet and buy different brands for new keyboard/mouse. I still want backlighting, so I'll probably end up with some tricked out bulky gamer keyboard, unless I decide to really splurge and get a Deck or similar.
Overall, I'm thoroughly unimpressed with my foray into the world of Logitech.
